Dubai Airports have commissioned the construction of additional terminal space and concourse areas comprising an extra 675,000sqm of floor space - twice the footprint of London Heathrow Terminal 5. ALEC have been awarded a further contract with ADAC, the package for the construction of a new 5000m2 Arrivals and link tunnel from Terminal 1 and 3 within Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The project is worth approximately AED60m and will commence immediately. It will consist of a new tunnel beneath the main access road into the airport, and a vertical core consisting of 3 elevators and 2 travelators will link the existing terminal building to the tunnel and through to the Arrivals Hall. The arrivals hall will consist of meet and greet areas, toilets, car rental, coffee shop  and various concessions stands.

The scope of work comprises the design and construction of a US Customs and Border Pre screening facility and stand alone baggage handling facility. In addition this includes the alteration of the current hold rooms to create 4No segregated hold rooms for US flights.

The third concourse will have 20 contact gates, of which 18 will be for the A380. It is a fully airside structure and is connected to Terminal 3 via an automated people mover in addition to vehicular and baggage handling systems utility tunnels. Encased in its elliptical shape are 2 rectangular volumes that hold both 4 and 5 star hotels. The first and business class lounges are located on 2 separate levels below the hotel, including arrival and departure floors and a duty free area. ALEC's scope includes the overall co-ordination of the project, managing various subcontract packages and associated packages.

Fast track refurbishment and new build of an existing airport building including a new building to provide Dubai Airport with a new VIP Al Majilis facility.
