At the 5th Annual Construction Week Awards held at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai on 4 November 2009, ALEC was nominated for four awards and received the following accolades:
Winner: Contractor of the Year 2009
The award was given to the GCC construction company who could most demonstrate operational excellence, commercial success and continuous improvement. Testimonials from clients, developers and subcontractors were welcomed, and evidence of commitment to worker welfare, environmental awareness and efficient working practices was essential.
Highly Commended: Supreme Judges Award 2009
The Supreme Judges Award is selected from the winners of all the other categories. This award goes to the company, project or person that has clearly gone beyond the call of duty and stands. Woods Bagot was awarded the Supreme Judges Award for its work on the Qatar Science and Technology Park in Doha.
Highly Commended: HSE award 2009
The award was designed for this year’s event to support and promote health and safety within the region’s construction industry.
Highly Commended: Commercial Project of the Year 2009 - Dubai Marina Mall, Hotel & Apartments
Judges were asked to look for uniqueness in approach, and how the build demonstrated achievement through the use of technological advancement. Six Construct won this award for the Ferrari Experience on Yas Island.
Highly Commended: Project Manager of the Year 2009 - Peter Leitner -Mirdif City Centre
For the award, the judging panel were looking for individuals who could best demonstrate decisive and effective leadership on a project. They also bore in mind timely completion, effective cost controls and client endorsement. This is a great achievement for Peter Leitner and the Management would like to congratulate him for achieving this accolade.
