ALEC's Corporate Social Responsibility is embedded into our values of integrity, courage, reliability and valuing our people. These attributes will assist us in achieving our goal of being the best construction company in our geographical areas of operation. It confirms ALEC's image as a caring corporate entity and a responsible partner within the communities that it operates in.
The key theme of ALEC's Corporate Social Responsibility programme is "Making a Difference".
Our CSR strategy is:
- To Educate our workforce in CSR principles and practices.
- To facilitate social change by encouraging different behavior, activities and Engagement.
- To thereby Enhance ALEC's reputation and growth of the business.
Rather than creating a range of new initiatives, ALEC is developing current initiatives that are in place and integrating them into an overall CSR framework. Our company CSR Logo was designed by one of our very own ALEC staff members after running a company wide competition. The logo reflects the core values of our CSR policy and company ethos.
Engagement of the various stakeholders from all areas of the business has been considered to be essential to the success of the CSR policy implementation. Our Statement of Values and our Business Ethics Code define what we stand for as an organisation and we hope to bring employees together under a clear common purpose within the CSR framework.
The four main focus areas for our corporate social responsibility programme are:
- The Workplace
- Health And Safety
- Environment and Sustainability
- The Community
The key to the success of any CSR programme is communication both internally and externally. Company wide initiatives relating to all four of our focus areas include wellness programmes, an ISO rated safety programme, an incentivized carbon footprint programme, computer training programmes for our unskilled labour, a companywide "volunteer bank" of varied skill to participate in both internal and external community CSR initiatives - to name a few.
All our CSR projects are chosen according to select criteria. The partnerships are active and select. We believe we need to adopt a proactive methodology of developing sustainable and meaningful partnerships within the communities with charities, customers, suppliers and subcontractors who have a common goal and shared interests. We prefer a model of strategic CSR as opposed to a hand- out driven or donation model. Working collaboratively we believe we can "Make A Difference".
